Always Asks Berin Made

A little while ago I was checking out the blog of one of my favourite photographers when I spotted this fabulous shoot with a lovely range of stationery (just one look at my logo and you’ll know I love calligraphy) by a new company called Berin Made, I quickly bookmarked the website thinking I must get in touch for some samples. Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago and I was delighted to receive a lovely email from the Erin herself introducing her company. So without any hesitation I got back in touch and asked Erin a few questions…

What’s your background? (Self taught or design/art school?)

I’ve been making things with my hands for as long as I can remember. My background is in painting with a BA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martin’s in London. After which I got my MA in Contemporary Art focusing on theory and criticism. I did a lot of art writing and curating work with private collectors too.

Why did you decide to set up Berin Made?

When I graduated I worked in the Post War and Contemporary Art department in a high-profile auction house, but I found myself desperate to create things again. I set up the Etsy shop selling things I had made at home in my spare time. It was at first really just an outlet for my creative itch. But the more time I spent on it, the more I realised that I really enjoyed the prospect of doing this full time, as well as running a small business. I really admired people who ran their small businesses– now I see that it takes a lot of versatility and creative thinking which I just love to do!

How would you describe your style/vision?

I’m naturally attracted to all things floral, colourful and bold. I spent a long time resisting this when I was in Art college because it just wasn’t conceptually “forward-thinking” enough for a fine artist. Over time and as I grew into my practise though, I found that it was OK to embrace this inclination while keeping the look updated and modern. I love that the look of my work sits between timeless hand-painted florals and calligraphy and at the same time appeals to a modern audience, I guess because of the colours and versatility.

Championing creativity is also a huge thing for me. I love making products where clients can customise pieces by themselves, like the hand-lettered name stamp. That’s why I love my DIY projects and styled shoots so much!!

Where do you find your inspiration?

I love the art of calligraphy, hand-lettering, and antique letterforms, so old books and vintage illustrations are definitely a starting point. For colour and pattern I love looking at interior and fashion magazines and shop displays (Anthropologie is such a fast pick-me-up). At the end of the day, my soft spot is and always will be for the masters of painting: Cy Twombly, Peter Doig (although perhaps it will be a while yet for him to be considered a master!), Lucian Freud, Henri Matisse, and the like who have such a heart and soul for colour. The best part for me is somehow to pull these worlds together to work them into my own aesthetic and the look of the brand.

You recently launched your new wedding ‘mix and match’ service can you explain how it works?

The mix and match stationery line is compiled of a swatchbook of illustrated designs, and can be mixed, matched and colour-customised to your hearts’ content. Conceived with the budget-and-design-savvy bride in mind, it aims to champion a love of festive celebration with a unique personal touch, without the price tag of total custom design.

The Swatchbook, much like a sketchbook, is my collection of illustrated and hand-lettered elements where you can explore your ideas and vision, and experiment with mixing, matching and colour-customising what you like best for your invitation set. These elements can be chosen to extend into their enclosures, accessories, day-of paper goods, as well as after-the-day stationery.

On top of all of this, built into the price is a unique hand-lettering of the couple’s names which will feature on their invitation sets. The whimsical flourish of hand-lettering is the perfect emblem in the suite which gives it all the look and luxury of custom invitations.

Invitation sets are printed on a luxurious Colourplan range by GFSmith. Extra finishing such as embossing, debossing, and foil blocking are all supported by this paper range. Since paper is so important, I encourage my clients to order a sample, and it’s fully redeemable with a future order.

What has been your favourite wedding to design for /work on?

Every project brings on its own unique set of challenges and perks so it’s hard to pick just one! I love it when a bride comes to me knowing that I am “the one”. I know this feeling when I got married myself, when approaching a supplier you just know in your heart that you want them to be a part of your big day because their work makes your heart skip a beat. It is wonderful to work for someone who feels that they have found a match in my work! Also I love it when they ask for a product I don’t offer! It sounds strange but I really love that my work can be applied in different ways and I love that challenge of answering a special request!

What do you think couples should be looking for when buying their wedding stationery?

I think that wedding stationery is one thing that couples tend to cut back on their budget on because it is conceived as just a piece of paper. In a sense that is true, but I think there is so much more to it, because it’s such a tangible piece of your wedding and memories that every guest will get to keep after the day. I have kept every single piece of beautiful stationery from friends’ and family’s weddings because tactility can conjure up amazing memories (that’s why scrapbooks and photo albums are such tear-jerkers).  So I think it’s important to find a supplier whose work makes your heart skip a beat, who listens to your ideas and accommodate you always where possible.

What advice would you give to couples when planning their wedding?

Have fun with it! It’s a celebration of your lives ahead. This is just day one. I loved my wedding and keep beautiful memories of it but my marriage is even better.

Also, always order a sample– most reputable suppliers will offer this option whether free, or redeemable against your order.

Where do you see the future of Berin Made?

I love doing weddings and have found brides to be so wonderful and exciting to work for. I’d love one day to have enough illustrations to make a beautiful book out of them. Oh, and also homeware. I’d love to get my work produced on fabrics, dinnerware, wallpaper and the like. I already play with some of these ideas in my shop such as my wall vinyl and hand-lettered prints, but hopefully one day I’ll have the opportunity to expand on all of this.

A range of homeware products…now that I’d love to see! Thank you Erin for telling us a little about yourself and Berin Made, for more information please check out her website and order those samples!

Real London Wedding Anne & Sebastian The Design Details

Working with Anne and Seb was great fun, they are a lovely couple but some might say very different interests so when putting the look of their wedding together we wanted to make sure both of them were represented.

I started off by putting a couple of mood boards together and some design ideas; here is the mood board based around Anne’s love of irises and books.

A family friend Jane, put together the flowers for the church but was unable to do the personal flowers so I stepped in to make the bouquets and buttonholes. We all had a fun morning together at Covent Garden market where Anne got to choose her favourite flowers for the bouquets.

When it came to the reception details we knew we wanted to include Anne’s love of books but it was just as important for Seb to have something he loved especially as his family were not able to make it over from Argentina. As Seb is a big football fan we decided to name all the tables after famous Argentinean football players. The cake was made by one of Anne’s auntie’s but Seb made his mark by customising a cute little cake topper with a photo of his favourite team on the TV and supplying football shirts for the table!

There were a large number of children at the wedding too so as well as personalised goody bags at their seats I also set up a kiddy table with lots of fun activities from colouring books and balloon driven plastic cars-a big hit! I also made a finger print guest book tree for the kids to stamp their mark on.

So a final Happy Anniversary to Anne & Seb as they celebrate one year of married life today!! x

Real London Wedding: Anne & Sebastian~The Reception

After the ceremony in Tooting, Anne and Seb held their Reception at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London. As a child Anne’s sister had been to a wedding there and always remembered the grand staircase and following the recent renovations the Drawing Room and Edinburgh Suite made the perfect choice for their wedding dinner and party. After the drinks & canapé reception guests were treated to a delicious 3 course meal followed by some very heartfelt and amusing speeches by one of Anne’s best friends, her mother and Seb’s best man.

Real London Wedding: Anne & Sebastian~The Ceremony

As the end of April quickly approaches so does the one year wedding anniversary of Prince William and Catherine but here at Always Andri I’ll  be celebrating  the one year wedding anniversary of one of our lovely couples from last year Anne and Seb who were married in London on Saturday 29th April 2011. You can see their wedding in my portfolio here but I thought it would be nice to share more photos from the day and some of the planning and design details that went into it.

First up getting ready and the ceremony: Anne got ready at her parents’ house in Tooting where she grew up. With her sister as her maid of honour helping her and makeup by Ellie Blackwell.

Seb and his three best men-who says you can only have one? Got ready across the road from the church at the Long Room Hotel

Now Anne could have walked to the church it was so close but one of her cousins surprised her by booking a classic Rolls Royce from Carol’s Classics to take her and her mother, who walked her down the aisle, to the church.

The ceremony took place at St Nicholas’ Church in Tooting were Anne’s mother regularly attends.

After the ceremony guests were treated to Sri Lankan sweet treats while group photos were taken in the gardens and before heading off to central London for the reception at The Grand Connaught Rooms.

Come back next time when I’ll show you the lovely photos from the Reception.

You can also read Anne’s account of the day as featured opn Whimsical Wonderland Wedding blog here

Featured on Sweet Designs, a blog by Amy Atlas

At the start of April,  Asma from The Sugared Saffron asked me to help her style a photoshoot she was putting together at The RSA with photographer Caro Hutchings. It was to have a colourful 50’s vibe with her cakes and sweet treats making a fabulous dessert table. It was a really fun shoot to style and even more exciting to see it feature here on Sweet Designs, a blog by Amy Atlas especially when the queen of dessert buffets says such lovely things about the styling too.

The dessert table was just a small part of the shoot as we also had a model in a couple of lovely wedding dresses as well as a sweet heart table but you’ll just have to wait to see the rest of the shoot…

Always Asks: Le Papillon Patisserie

Cake… mmmm, who doesn’t love a bit of yummy cake? At the Luxury Wedding show last year I got to taste the delicious cakes of Surrey based company Le Papillion Patisserie and wanted to know more so I caught up with owner and cake maker extraordinaire Neil Thornton to ask him about those cakes….

What’s your background?

I was very keen on baking from an early age.  Looking back I was probably destined to be a cake maker!  My journey started at catering college where I specialised in Patisserie and sugar craft.  My career then developed in London in five star hotels and restaurants whilst making wedding cakes on the side.  Eventually I was able to realise my dream of opening a patisserie with a wedding cake business attached

Why did you decide to set up Le Papillon Patisserie?

Well it was my dream.  I love making cakes and knew that so many famous patisseries are now chains where the focus on quality has really suffered.  I also wanted a platform to build the wedding side of the business and it gave me the opportunity to do that.

How would you describe your style/vision?

Um probably scrumptious!  I just do not understand wedding cakes that taste of nothing but look pretty!  Why make a cake that is average?  For me cake should always be 100% tasty as well as looking gorgeous.  My style is based on that, it must look edible.

Where do you find your inspiration?

A lot of my inspiration comes from the bride in question.  We try not to offer you a book to choose from but encourage brides to get creative with us.  Of course we do duplicate cakes when a couple likes a cake we already made.  I also take lots of inspiration from classic patisserie, you will see hints of it in lots of our cakes.

What’s your design/creation process working with couples?

Well all our couples are invited to the shop to taste the cakes first, this is a must for us, once they go through flavours we start with the portfolio to get ideas from previous cakes, we also look to the couples wedding for inspiration.  If there is a theme running through the wedding we will try to incorporate it in the cake.  The design is sometimes finished in front of them that day or sometimes we work on it for a week or two.  Even now we are having last minute changes where a bride changed her colours last minute!

What has been your favourite wedding to work on?

I seem to like all our couples.  We have such a personal service that we make so many friends.  There is one wedding that sticks out where we created a cake for an artist where we used her art with our classic chocolate wrapped gateaux.  It was one of those jobs that until it’s finished you have no idea how it will turn out.  As it happens it was my favourite cake of the year.

What have you found the most challenging job?

The artist cake definitely, getting the balance of colours right was a very difficult task

What do you think couples should be looking for when buying their wedding cake?

You need to first of all decide what style you like.  If you want a tiered cake then there’s no point looking at our French gateaux tower.  Once you have the style then you can work on varieties of that style and flavours etc

What advice would you give to couples when planning their wedding?

RELAX!  I find it so amazing when someone is so uptight about the whole thing that they look like they aren’t enjoying themselves.  This is meant to be a romantic wonderful day, if you plan ahead relax and take professional advice planning can be very easy.  Also make sure you know what kind of wedding you want, stick to your idea.

What do you wish couples knew already when working with you?

Well I could probably write a list!  One of the things that amazes me is that people don’t realise you can have multiple flavours for your wedding cake.  I guess because traditionally you just had fruit cake that when you mention three flavours for a three tier cake they seem amazed!

What’s your one obsession at the moment-something you just can’t live without?

My new puppy Winston!  He is therapy after a hard long day baking

A fab little idea: giant paper flowers

I’m a big fan of any big paper flower so I loved seeing this beautiful wedding on Green Wedding Shoes with these fabulous DIY paper flowers made from paper and bath loofers that were used to make a great ceremony backdrop. Do take a look at the stunning wedding here (where the mother of the bride also made the bride’s amazing dress) and a great DIY tutorial on how to make the flowers here

Other ways to use the flowers could be as a backdrop to your top table, for a photo booth,  even lone ones dotted around your room.  How about using brightly colour modern wallpaper to make them from with coloured netting as their centres.

Wedding Planning Excellence 2012

I’m a firm believer in continuing my education and learning as a wedding planner and every year since launching my little company I’ve attended the UK Alliance of Wedding Planners annual Wedding Planning Excellence seminar. Held over two days, this year at the Private Rooms at 51 Buckingham Gate, it’s a jam packed weekend of business advice and industry speakers giving us the latest scoop on upcoming trends.

On day one we were given inspirational talks by business speakers Ray Hutchins, Tamsin Fox-Davis and Keren Lerner. We also had some great talks from Jo Byrne of Debretts on modern wedding etiquette and insightful talks on marquees by TT tents and bars for your wedding by iBarco. Day one was rounded off by a delicious meal at 30 Pavilion Road.

For day two the excellent calibre of speakers continued with another varied agenda that started off with an informative talk on post processing by Lloyd Dobbie, whose lovely photos I’ve shared with you on this post.  We were treated to an excellent make up demo by Jules Cardozo-Marsh, tips on venue dressing by venue stylists Mediterranean Occasions and a great presentation by Ellie Sanderson on the latest bridal style including us getting to choose dresses for brides in an X-factor style game that I ended up being one of the judges for! Rounding off the day was one of my favourite speakers who I only wish we’d more had time with,  US based wedding planner Whitney Wing-Drake, of Wish Wonder Dream. It was fascinating to hear how a fellow wedding planner works across the pond and of course hear all the latest trends over there which I’m sure we’ll see over her very soon.

Finally I can’t talk about the event without mentioning the fabulous flowers by one our favourite florists Euphoric Flowers, the stunning stationery by Cutture and rather well stocked goody bag we got to take home too.

Always Andri Real London Wedding: 20th Century Theatre (part 2)

In my last post I looked at the beautiful wedding ceremony of Natasha & Simon that took place at The Foundling Museum, today I’m sharing with you the photos from the reception at The 20thCentruy Theatre.

The 20th Century Theatre is very much a dry hire venue so everything has to be brought in: lights, flowers, tables, chairs, etc. It really was a big production including a fabulous floral installation that went into the lighting rig and it looked amazing.

Guests were seated on arrival and treated to some yummy homemade dips and bread followed by a delicious 3 course meal by truly amazing caterers Under Cover Kitchen. After dinner cocktails were served including Espresso Martinis and guests were entertained by swing and jive band The Goosebumps.   The amazing chocolate covered profiterole tower cake was by Patisserie Valerie and the beautiful blooms by Rebel Rebel.

Always Andri Real London Wedding: The Foundling Museum (part 1)

Last December I had the pleasure of coordinating Natasha & Simon’s gorgeous art deco inspired wedding; their ceremony was held at the Foundling Museum followed by a reception at the 20th Century Theatre, in Notting Hill Gate.

The beautiful photography on the day was by Tyson Benton. There was so many great images that I decided to split them into two posts. First up getting ready, the ceremony at The Foundling and some fab portrait shots taken around London on the most perfect sunny winters day.

Always Advice: Getting Started

You’ve had the proposal, you’ve accepted and now you’re officially engaged, congratulations! What next? Well before you start choosing the colour of your confetti there are some big questions you both need to sit down and answer before you get carried away with all the details. Think of it as a big chain that interlinks, each link having a bearing on the next.

What kind of wedding do you want?

To begin with what kind wedding do you want? Have you always imagined having a big white wedding with all the traditional trimmings, a weekend packed full of celebrations  or do you see yourselves just wanting a good party where you can let your hair down with your friends and family? It’s your wedding, don’t be swayed by what you think is the right thing to do; you want it to be a personal reflection of you as a couple so decide what stlye of wedding will work for you both.

What’s your budget?

Next to consider is the big money question, how much do you want to spend on the wedding? Be realistic, look at your finances and work out how much you can afford, the start of married life is not the time to be getting into debt. Will you need to start saving or do you already have a pot put aside?

Are there any family members that want to help? If so it’s worth talking to them at this stage to establish what are they expecting in return, is it a no obligation gift or are they going to want a large say in what the money is being spent on. If you feel it’s going to compromise the kind of wedding you want then consider saying no. It’s always a good idea to use gifted money for a particular area of the wedding such as the flowers or drinks and give them some say in just that area.

When to marry?

Is there a time of year that holds a special significance, an anniversary of an important date in your relationship? The budget may have a big effect on when you choose to get married because if you have to save you will need to give yourself long enough to do so. If the budget’s tight you may also want to consider getting married out of season i.e. not in the summer or think about a mid week wedding. Unless you’re having the most intimate of weddings or are willing to be incredibly flexible with dates you should give yourselves plenty of time to budget for and plan the wedding.

Who to invite?

Make a provisional guest list as soon as you can, there’s no point looking for venues if you’ve no idea who’s coming? Split your list into groups, family, friends- school, university, work, and within each group list in importance, close and not so close etc. (Grouping at this stage will also help if you eventually decide to do a seating plan.) This is also a good time to decide who you want to play key roles such the best man and chief bridesmaid and check with them if they’re going to be around for the date or time of year you have in mind.

Once you have asked yourselves these key questions you are better prepared for the next steps and that’s when the fun really begins!

A look back at 2011

As we settle back into working after a lovely break I thought I’d take a little look back at 2011.

Weddings, weddings, weddings

From a large city party, an outdoor ceremony and boat trips down the Thames in 2011 I got to work with some lovely couples helping them plan and coordinate their fabulous weddings.

While the world looked on as Royalty wed in April I planned the London wedding of Anne and Seb who were married the next day.

With beautiful photography by Shell de Mar (assisted by Anushe Low) it was a pleasure to see this wedding featured on Whimsical Wonderland Weddings blog and shortlisted for Your London Wedding Magazines Wedding of the Year.

Another great wedding I worked on was that of Katie and John’s at Northbrook Park, the highlight for me being able to make sure they got the outside ceremony they really wanted despite the British weather’s best efforts!

Photographer Marianne Taylor performed her usual magic in capturing this wedding and it was an absolute delight to not only see it featured on US blog Style Me Pretty but also in Wedding Flowers Magazine.

Creative Photoshoots

Last year was also a bumper one for photoshoots as suppliers from across the industry got together to work on creative photoshoots showcasing their work.

Photography by Fanni Williams

For this Peaches and Lace shoot at Beauberry House in Dulwich I put together a team of all local suppliers to me and the venue; this shoot featured on Love My Dress Blog.

Photography by Fiona Kelly

The Secret Garden shoot had the stunning Walled Garden at Cowdray as backdrop and featured on Whimsical Wonderland Weddings, Bridal Musings and the US Brenda’s Wedding Blog.

Photography by Chanelle at Sergerius Bruce Photography

The Modern Shoot as it came to be known took place at Altitude 360 in London, and a as nice little early Christmas present if was featured on Rock My Wedding in December.

The UK Alliance of Wedding Planners

I’ve always been very proud of my membership of the UKAWP, not only does it promote the professionalism of wedding planners within the industry providing support and further leaning opportunities such as Wedding Planning Excellence (WPE) which I attend every year but I have also made some great friends for life.

Photography by Julia Boggio

Last year I was  part of the planning team who put together the UKAWP’s Wedding Sanctuary at Somerset House as the Creative Director. It was a great event and I’m pleased to say we’ve now started planning this year’s.

…and the rest…

Summer Soiree Photography by  Helen Russell & Katy Lunsford

As well as all the work on weddings and photo shoots I also continued to attend a number of great networking events from the Rock’n’Roll Bride Party (my fourth) in London to the Love My Dresses Summer Soirée in Newcastle and various other little tweet ups and venue showcases too, everyone a great opportunity to meet new and old suppliers.

And as the year came to a close I launched my new look website and logo.

Thank you!!!

Looking back at last year like this and seeing everything I worked on and achieved really does make all the hard work that I’ve put into my little company worthwhile. But most of all it makes me truly grateful for the wonderful  couples I get to work with and fabulous suppliers without which I couldn’t have achieved so much.

On a personal note my husband and I also celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary and my little boy turned 6, so to my boys- thank you, I love you both!

Final 30 day photo project photos

So here are my final 3 photos for my 30 day photo project.

Day 28: Pretty patterns

Anthropologie has a shop on the Kings Road; a treasure trove for wedding decor with some fabulous things, I fell in love with an amazing glass bauble chandelier which would be great as wedding decor but here are some pretty patterns from some cute teacups.

Day 29: Light

I was hoping to get a cool sun flare photo for today but no luck, here instead are some sparkly chandeliers from Heals

20120105-205518.jpg

Day 30: Self Portrait

Well this is me…

20120105-205849.jpg

So that’s it all 30 photos taken by me on my iPhone and edited on Instagram. I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing my pics and getting a little insight into my days. It’s been a fun little personal project to do although glad it was only 30 days, next up I’ll be doing a round up of 2011 at Always Andri Wedding Design.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! Hope everybody had a lovely Christmas break.

Well it was back to work with a bang today with a day full of venue visits, just squeezing in a quick blog post while on the train. So I got to day 23 with my 30 day photo challenge so have a few more images to share with you today (days 24-27) and tomorrow (days 28-30) before a little round up of 2011 on Friday.

Day 24: under the tree

As parents of a 6 year old the presents under our tree mostly belong to him. I decided this year that we would spread the present giving out through the day and I’m glad I did as he definitely seemed to appreciate them all a lot more.

20120104-161603.jpg

Day 25: Family

Christmas day for me is lunch cooked by me at home with my mum, dad and my boys…

20120104-163536.jpg

Day 26: Boxes

Boxing day… a lazy day of eating leftovers, watching tv and playing with all those toys and this year was a bumper one for board games.

20120104-163645.jpg

Day 27: After Dark

A day in London today assisting another wedding planner with a wedding at Claridges. I had meant to take a photo of some lovely London Xmas decorations after dark but didn’t get the chance. I am quite pleased with this photo though which I took outside Victoria train station.

20120104-163815.jpg

Day 22 & 23: Christmas tree & sparkle

Today as well as doing some Christmas baking and finishing off a few bits in the office, I assisted a fellow wedding planner for a few hours. The wedding took place at Vinopolis in London Bridge, a fabulous space for a winter wedding. Beautifully styled with giant hanging snowflakes, gorgeous flowers and glittering Christmas trees there was no shortage of sparkle. So I’m going to cheat and give you two photos taken today as the trees there were far prettier then mine and for ‘sparkle’ a detail from the fabulous Zoe Clark cake.

20111223-214616.jpg

20111223-214630.jpg

Day 20 & 21: seasonal & what I read

I’ve been slowly winding down for Christmas this week but as I’m in the middle of a client venue search I have had a few venue visits; the great thing about visiting at this time of year is getting to see all the beautiful Christmas decorations that are up and there have been some real beauties. I really liked these vases that were filled with pine cones, might just do something similar at home since I have a rather large collection following a trip to the park with my little boy.

20111221-203915.jpg

I’m a big reader, nothing I like more then to curl up in bed with a good book. I’m reading one of my favourite books at the moment ~ The Time Traveller’s Wife ~ I’ve lost count the number of times I’ve read it, at least once a year since the first time and I still love it every time. Do you have a favourite book you can read over and over again?

20111221-205148.jpg

Featured: Rock My Wedding

A little pause from my 30 day photo challenge to share some good news with you today. Back in November I designed and planned a bridal inspiration shoot which I’m delighted to say was featured on the fabulous Rock My Wedding Blog yesterday.
It was a great shoot to plan with a fantastic team of suppliers so do take a look here and leave some love in the comments if you like what you see.

20111220-190123.jpg

20111220-190109.jpg

Day 18: what I ate

Every year we have a big Benson family meal the week before Christmas. The first one I ever went to there were 10 of us sitting around the table, this year with all the partners, grandchildren and great grandchildren there were over twenty of us. We went to the Millbank Lounge in Westminster and had a very laid back Sunday lunch, I ate a rather delicious vegetarian anti-pasti followed by a hazelnut & chocolate brownie and icecream (sorry ate that too quickly to take a photo!)

20111219-182633.jpg

Day 17: Christmas shopping

I’ve done most of my christmas shopping online this year but I did manage to pop into town this weekend for a few last minute presents. Portobello Road is great for finding unusual gifts for those hard to buy for family members and is a fantastic little treasure trove for wedding props too, from vintage teacups and antique silverware to road signs and old leather footballs (a find for any football loving grooms out there).
One of my favourite shops, which unlike many of the stalls is open during the week too is Katrina Philips a fabulous interiors shops which has some amazing Christmas decorations at the moment, think giant baubles, glittery stars and rustic hearts, that I would love to use for decor at a wedding, here’s a little peek inside…

20111218-105733.jpg

Day 15 & 16: something I made & …

Back in the summer I bought some fab shredding scissors, they’re great for making paper flowers and a DIY tutorial I put together on how featured on Rock’n'Roll Bride. Using a similar idea I made this little paper flower heart wreath (if anyone wants to feature the tutorial for this one let me know)

20111216-164312.jpg

Now day 16 is supposed to be what I wore, I’ve been home all day in black trousers and top, not that exciting an outfit I promise you but I did get this amazing Christmas card in the post from wedding stationery company Cutture and decided this would be far better photo to share.

20111216-164410.jpg

Day 14: Friends

So do you have any exciting plans leading you into Christmas? A big work do, a night out on the town or perhaps something a little quieter maybe dinner with friends? On Sunday I have a BIG family get together but last night I had an intimate dinner with a few very good wedding planner friends to celebrate Christmas. With a delicious home cooked 3 course meal of scallops and bacon, stuffed chicken and panna cotta accompanied by fruity cocktails.

20111215-163225.jpg

Day 12 & 13: Close up & from a distance

Have you put up your Christmas tree yet? I’ve always liked to put ours up on December 12th, even when I was growing up and it was my job to decorate the tree. So on Monday we put the tree up, we always used to have a fresh one and I do love the smell and look of a fresh one but last year we let our boy make the decision and he opted for artificial one I think he hated the thought of the old tree being thrown away. So here is a close up of one of the decorations:

We live on a hill, with fantastic views across London and everyday I get to see this view:

Day 10 & 11: Wedding party & flowers

The wedding I coordinated this weekend at The Twentieth Century Theatre was fabulous but as it was so busy it did mean I didn’t get a chance to blog my day 10 or 11 photos so here they are today. I managed to sneak in taking this shot while the party was in full swing of the amazing Patisserie Valerie chocolate covered profiterole tower just before it was cut and then today when I went back to oversee the pick up, one of the stunning flowers by London florists Rebel Rebel.

Day 9: in my bag

Tomorrow I’m coordinating a wedding at The Twentieth Century Theatre in Notting Hill Gate. There’s a great team of suppliers involved and I’m particularly looking forward to seeing the floral installation go up first thing. As usual the evening before a wedding I check my kit is all packed properly. Now I don’t just have one kit bag I split it between a large handbag that has the most used items and a wheely suitcase full of all sorts that just might come in handy at wedding. Today’s photo is the contents of the smaller bag from lighters to safety pins, various tapes and ribbons & lots in between, as a wedding planner I always like to come prepared.

Day 8: Technology

I’ve never really considered myself much of a technology person but in recent years, especially since launching my wedding planning business I have found myself relying more on my gadgets and gizmos. Take the iPhone for example, I’m actually sitting on train home right now following a client appointment, writing a blog post which I can’t help but think is pretty useful. On Tuesday my son is in his school Xmas play and I’ll be using my lovely red camera you see below to video him so I suppose what I’m saying is who doesn’t love a bit of technology these days (and I’m hoping if I’ve been really good this year Santa will be getting me an iPad)

Day 6: Childhood memory

This is the is my childhood home where I lived until I was 11 years old, my sister and I shared a room and used to have hours of fun playing in the garden together or playing shop in the spare room. I don’t live far from it now and when I fancy a trip done memory lane it’s just a little detour on the way home from the school run.

Day 5: favourite food

Scallops cooked with bacon and garlic butter, my dad’s barbecued chicken, roasted sea-bass, creamy seafood and vegetable risotto, gooey chocolate pudding, raspberry ripple ice cream mmmm… Just some of my favourites foods but as it’s a Monday in December the chances of having any of these foods in the house is highly unlikely so I give you a photo of some rather yummy green beans in a mustard dressing… I do love my vegetables…

A little project for December…

Well it’s December today, where did this year go? This month is shaping up to be a pretty busy one what with working on weddings and various other projects so I decided to do something a little different for December on the blog. I came across this post on Oh So Lovely on a 30 day photo challenge and I thought it might be a nice project for the blog, my little personal advent calendar!

I also found this challenge list which is entitled Gratitude and as I couldn’t choose between the two I decided  I would mix it up a little and make it a bit more festive so with the help of my 6 year old boy we came up with a new list:

So I’ll do my best to post everyday (here’s hoping the wordpress app on my phone works) but may collate a few images into single posts. If you feel like joining please let me know in the comments, I’d love to see other people photos.

So for day one: someone I love…

This Lysander, our little boy, all wrapped up and on his way to school…

I’ve started moving some of my old blog posts over here but if you want to see some of the old blog posts they can still be found here.

A quick tip: wedding style inspiration

Undecided about a colour scheme or style for your wedding, let your choice of venue guide you; a grand period building might inspire a glamorous vintage day, a light and airy modern city venue- monochrome with minimal details, an art gallery bright use of colour…

Adorable Find: Anne Morgan Jewellery

I’ve been on the hunt recently for contemporary jewellery for a little photoshoot I’ve been working on and discovered the lovely work of Anne Morgan Contemporary Jewellery on Not On the High Street. I’ve shown a few of her rings here but she also has a range of beautiful necklaces, earrings and cufflinks too.

Using traditional techniques and working in sterling silver, her handmade pieces blend together a unique combination of organic texture with simple geometry. Anne also offers a bespoke commissioning service so if you like her work but don’t see the perfect piece for your wedding why not have your own unique piece of contemporary wedding jewellery designed?

A fab little idea: hanging books

Love these beautiful book chandeliers as featured in this gorgeous elopement shoot posted on Ruffled blog recently. How about a wall of them, hanging at different heights as a backdrop for your civil ceremony?  Perfect for those book loving brides out there…

A visit to a wedding dress design studio: Allbone & Trimit

Wedding dress designer studio

I recently visited the lovely Catherine of Allbone & Trimit in her fab little studio in Crystal Palace. Catherine was one of the first wedding suppliers I ever introduced myself to before I’d even officially launched my wedding planing company so it was great to have a long oveerdue catch up over tea and cake, and yummy polenta lemon drizzle cake at that from the local Blackbird Bakery.

Fashion Inspiration: Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2012

louis vuitton carousel catwalk wedding idea

Doing a little browsing today and came across the Louis Vuitton by Marc Jacobs spring/ summer 2012 collection. With lots of ice-cream pastels and the most beautiful giant broderie anglais detailing I thought they made the perfect inspiration for those of you looking for short wedding dresses and the models made their entrances via a white carousel, how fabulous would it be to have one of those at your wedding…

Our Big Fat Greek Wedding Anniversary

Wedding Planner Greek Wedding

Today is our ten year wedding anniversary! It is the most glorious sunny day in London today so we went out for a lovely lunch at our local Café Rouge where we sat outside in the sun and plan on having a relaxing evening at home.  We’ve been taking it easy today and making the most of the sun but I thought I’d share a few photos from our wedding day.

We had a traditional Greek Orthodox wedding ceremony at St Sophia’s Cathedral in Bayswater followed by dinner and lots of dancing at The Carlton Tower on Cadogan Square. It really was an amazing day that was just the beginning of a wonderful marriage.

Wedding Planner Greek Wedding

I designed my 3 piece wedding dress and my parents who owned a dress factory at the time made it for me. I also had great fun making my tiara and earrings.

Now bearing in mind we got married 10 years ago I don’t have many digital images of our wedding so I took some photos of our wedding album by the fabulous photographers Storybook Weddings.

Something to make you smile…

So I thought I’d share something a little different with you today, a couple of little videos that I’ve seen recently that have nothing to do with weddings but made me happy and by posting them here I know I can come back to them when I want to.

This sweet video was posted by Belle Amour via Colour Me Kate by Improv Everywhere. A megaphone was set up on a lectern with sign attached asking people to “Say Something Nice” which was then placed around various spots in New York, and filmed….

So did it make you smile-I know I did.

This second video “100 Years of Dance“  posted by Beyond Beyond via  @justnoey is just fabulous with all the different outfit changes and dance styles. When I worked at the BBC Costume Store designers/stylist would call us up and ask up to put outfits together for various films, TV ads etc and I would have LOVED to have got the call for this one…enjoy!

So have you seen any fab videos recently that made you smile? I’d love to see them…

A fab little idea: heart leaf garland

wedding garland

I came across this cute DIY project the other day on Colour Me Katie: Something Old to Something New and thought this could be a fab little idea to incorporate into an Autumnal wedding. These lovely garlands are made using leaves that had fallen to the ground and a heart stamp.

You could use them to dress the back of you chairs, decorate a cake table or how about a whole wall of them as a backdrop to a photo booth or even your ceremony…

Go take a look at the post for how to make the garlands and while you’re there take a look around the blog there lots of lovely things there and thank you to Belle Amour for the introduction.

Always Loves: Creative Table Plans

One of my favourite aspects of wedding day décor is the stationery element as I think it’s an area where you can really infuse your personality and set the style of your day.

Here are some creative table plans that I hope will inspire you to think a little bit out of the box when creating yours…

Using blackboards can be a great way of accommodating any last minute changes to your table plans. Here individual boards are used for each table..

Don’t limit yourself to just black boards to write onto-how about window panes and mirrors?

From suitcases, antique bookshelves to ladders, think of all the creative ways you can display your plan…

I could go on and show you many more as there are so many fabulous ideas out there that you can take as inspiration but I’ll leave it at that for today, next time I’ll show you ideas for escort card displays. So what are you doing for your wedding?

Real Wedding E-shoot: Anne and Seb

While the world may be looking forward to a certain Royal Wedding at the end of the month here at Always Andri Wedding Design my focus had definitely been one of my lovely couples Anne & Seb who are getting married the next day in London. Anne and Seb live in Canterbury so their photographer Shella of Shell de Mar Photography popped down there last month for their engagement shoot.

Anne had told me she hated having her photograph taken so this was the perfect opportunity for her to get to know Shella a little better and realise she had nothing to worry about.

For more photos from the day take a look at Shella’s blog here
