Modern wedding cake inspiration from Instagram

Modern wedding cake inspiration from Instagram.

When it comes to wedding trends and creative inspiration it often feels like it all the fresh ideas are coming from the US. With so many amazing suppliers and trendsetting blogs it’s not surprising we see those trends filtering through to the UK. But as inspiring as it is the US wedding industry doesn’t lead the way in all areas. When it comes to cake design, there are some amazing non-US based cake designers out there leading the way in showstopping cakes …yes I’m totally hooked on Bake Off at the moment ?

Take a little explore tour on Instagram and you’ll soon discover the delights and wonders of these amazing cake makers or should I say cake artists because truly some of these cakes are works of art. Here’s my round up of some of my favourite modern cake inspiration from Instagram.

Sweet Bakes by Alisha Henderson

a girl doing sweet stuff.
let’s talk sugar x sweetbakes.com.au

Based in Australia Alisha Henderson’s cakes a true celebration of colour and fun!  I love how she uses the canvas of perfectly smooth buttercream to paint colourful abstract art.

Cakes by Cliff

Again based in Australia, Clifford Luu’s colourful and textural cakes take their influence from architect and sculpture.

Julián Ángel is based in Columbia, South America but teaches workshops around the world. His cakes are riot of rich colours and sculptural forms. He’s also a great photographer so his Instagram feed is full of creatively  styled cakes and delicious sweet treats.

Don’t Tell Charles (DTC)

Designer Cake Studio ?. ?Melbourne, Australia. Cake Workshops @donttellcharles_workshops www.donttellcharles.com.au/online-school

Another Australia based cake maker creating masterpieces with crisp edges and abstract colour play, Don’t Tell Charles were the originators of the buttercream concrete cake. They take inspiration for their cakes from all areas of design from fine art and architecture to interiors and fashion.

Tortik Annushka

Based in Russia, again taking inspiration from all around them their cakes are a masterclass in precision icing, the finish is just exquisite. I particularly love their bubble cakes inspired by the work of visual artist Serena Garcia and ruffled textured cakes inspired by ceramicist Olivia Walker
