Winter Wedding at The Asylum + The London Eye

When Sarah and Megan first go in touch with me from the US to help them plan their same-sex winter wedding in London,  I knew it was a going to be a dream wedding to work on. With a firm emphasis on family and friends and a design that that focused on jewel colours and twinkly lights, planning and designing this London winter wedding was a joy from start to finish.

The day started bright and early at The Zetter Hotel were Sarah and Megan enjoyed a champagne breakfast and views across London in their rooftop apartment while having their hair and make-up done.

As Megan and Sarah were based in the US I was tasked with finding their wedding venues for both their ceremony and reception – they gave me a fairly open brief – with an intimate guest list of only 50 closest family and friends the focus would be on finding a relaxed venue that wasn’t too “weddingy” and gave them the intimate family vibe there were after.

For a truly unique hidden gem in London, the Asylum can’t be beaten. With its crumbling textures and stained glass windows it really provides a stunning backdrop to any wedding ceremony. We really wanted to play on the magical winter candlelight so we had an abundance of candles all around. Being a December wedding, it was always going to be little chilly so we also got in lots blankets and served mulled wine, hot chocolate and in true British style warming pie and mash.

The original plan had been to have a later ceremony and then go straight onto their winter wedding reception in London but due to the time of year the only available ceremony slot was at midday so there would be a big gap to be filled. Sarah and Megan really wanted to showcase London to their US guests so I suggested we take the guests on the London Eye…

Not only did the wedding party get to see London in all its glory but they were also blessed with the most amazing sunset that the photographer Laura Babb captured to perfection.
