When starting to plan your wedding, the world is your oyster. More and more couples are opting for a destination wedding, and I can completely understand why. Destination weddings allow you, your partner and your nearest and dearest the chance to jet off for a once-in-a-lifetime experience in any corner of the globe that takes your fancy. So, while you’re pondering tropical beaches, windswept mountains or buzzing cities – might I humbly suggest London as an option?
A LONDON DESTINATION WEDDING
This is a city with so much to offer. I am deeply in love with London and all its many colours and faces. Here are my top five reasons why London is the perfect place for a destination wedding
THE MEMORIES
I’m always amazed by just how many people have London as part of their personal histories, no matter where in the world they’re currently living. Perhaps you or your partner were born in the Big Smoke. Maybe you visited as a child or as a student; maybe you’ve worked in the city at one time in your life or have a family connection here; or perhaps you first set eyes on each other in London’s busy, bustling heart. Choosing a location with a connection to you or your families automatically makes a London destination wedding that bit more personal, and I’ll bet that London has popped up in your relationship story at some point or another.
THE VIBRANCY
It’s tricky for me to pin down my favourite thing about London, but I’ll try! I think for me, what makes it so special is that it feels like a cluster of lots of little villages all stuck together. Each little corner of London has its own personality, its own set of quirks. In lots of ways, London is like several cities in one. This incredible vibrancy and variety means you’ve got a huge number of options available to design a wedding that perfectly reflects you, from an urban cool warehouse to an opulent townhouse. (Check out some of my favourite unique London wedding venues for some inspiration.)
THE ATTRACTIONS
London is PACKED with things to do. Fascinating art galleries, incredible history, beautiful parks, a thriving food scene and tonnes of quirky experiences make it perfect for a longer stay. When planning a destination wedding, particularly one that requires long haul travel for some or all of your guests, you need to think of your wedding as one (incredible) part of a holiday. It’s likely that many of your guests will choose to stay on location for a few days before or after the event itself, and picking London as your destination means they’ll never be short on things to see and do.
THE CONVENIENCE
London is a world class transport hub. With 5 easily accessible airports and more trains than you can shake a stick at, it makes getting around really easy for your long-distance guests. There’s a wealth of accommodation options available too – from chic B&Bs and one-of-a-kind homestays to 5* luxury hotels. All styles and all budgets are amply catered for here for a London destination wedding.
THE TRAILBLAZING
London boasts some of the world’s most incredible wedding industry professionals. It’s a city at the forefront of new wedding trends and at the top of its game when it comes to planning events that truly wow. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s glorious day was watched all over the world, but it was the tip of an extremely talented and diverse iceberg. I am consistently inspired by the incredible creativity and craftsmanship on display from wedding suppliers in London and the surrounding areas. I can’t wait for you to discover them too!
